Hikes and Walks in Kangaroo Valley: Where Nature Slows You Down

Tucked between misty escarpments and lush rainforest, our Kangaroo Valley farm stay is where time slows down and the outdoors takes the lead. Whether you're visiting for a weekend or staying longer, the best way to connect with the landscape is on foot — and lucky for you, the region is known for its incredible Kangaroo Valley walks and hikes.

From gentle creekside strolls to more rugged trails through the escarpment, here’s our guide to discovering the most beautiful walks in the valley.

Easy Kangaroo Valley Walks for a Slower Pace

Hampden Bridge Bush Loop

Start under the sandstone arches of Kangaroo Valley’s iconic Hampden Bridge. This short, scenic loop follows the river and winds through peaceful bushland — keep an eye out for kangaroos and wombats along the way. Perfect for families or a slow afternoon wander.

Kangaroo River Walking Track

This 3.5 km track leads you down through Morton National Park, past natural rock formations and into the stillness of the bush. It ends near the river — a great spot to pause, picnic, or just sit with the sounds of nature.

Historic Village Stroll

Take a relaxed wander through Kangaroo Valley’s village centre. Browse the local shops, grab a coffee, and stop by the Pioneer Walk for a little local history. It’s all part of the rhythm here — slow, welcoming, and quietly charming.

Moderate Trails with Stunning Payoffs

Three Views Walking Track

This well-marked 9.5 km return trail in Morton National Park gives you, as promised, three incredible viewpoints over the Shoalhaven Gorge, Lake Yarrunga, and Tallowa Dam. Mostly flat with big scenic rewards, it’s ideal if you want those “worth it” views without a steep climb.

West Rim Walking Track (Fitzroy Falls)

One of the most popular Fitzroy Falls walks, this 3.5 km return trail offers a series of dramatic lookouts over the escarpment and waterfalls below. The path is clear and easy to follow, with forest and gorge views that are hard to beat.

Red Rocks Trig Walking Track
A short and sweet 1 km return walk that delivers big on views. The trail winds through open bushland and leads to a trig point with panoramic views over Kangaroo Valley and beyond. Bring your binoculars — it’s a great one for birdwatching.

For the Keen Hiker: Challenging & Remote Trails in Kangaroo Valley

East Rim and Wildflower Walking Tracks

These connecting trails offer a longer loop through Morton National Park. Starting at Fitzroy Falls, the 6.7 km return walk takes you through native forest and past lookout points that showcase the valley in all its glory — especially during wildflower season.

Mount Carrialoo Trail

For something more remote, this 8.8 km return trail climbs up to sweeping ridge-line views. It’s steep in sections and best suited for experienced hikers looking to truly escape into nature.

Mannings Lookout via McPhails Trail

A lesser-known trail with minimal foot traffic and major payoff, this moderately challenging walk leads to one of the most breathtaking, and under-the-radar, lookouts in the region.

Things to Know Before You Hit the Trail

  • When to Go: Autumn and spring are hard to beat — think cooler days, golden leaves, and fewer bugs. Winter’s great too, especially if you like crisp air and clear views. Summer can be beautiful, but keep in mind some trails get hot and a bit leechy after rain.
  • What to Bring: Comfortable hiking shoes are a must. Add a hat, sunscreen, snacks, plenty of water, insect repellent, and a map or GPS if you’re venturing off the beaten path.
  • Tread Lightly: Stick to the trails, pack out what you pack in, and go gently — you’re walking through some pretty special country.
  • Where to Refuel: Once you’ve clocked your steps, head into the village for a well-earned bite. The General Café is perfect for post-hike brunch, and The Friendly Inn is a favourite for a relaxed lunch and a cold drink in the beer garden.
